The place
The deep-blue lake beneath the ten jagged peaks of the Valley of the Ten Peaks — arguably the most photographed view in Canada. Scramble the Rockpile at sunrise, paddle a canoe, or chase golden larches in September.
If Lake Louise is the postcard, Moraine Lake is the desktop wallpaper — an impossibly blue lake cupped by the sawtooth Valley of the Ten Peaks. The short scramble up the Rockpile delivers the iconic panorama, while the Larch Valley and Sentinel Pass trails climb into golden alpine larch forest that turns the whole valley amber for two weeks each September.
Access is the catch: the road is closed to private cars, so you must ride a Parks Canada or commercial shuttle, and sunrise slots book out weeks ahead. It's worth the logistics — arrive for first light and the peaks glow before the crowds even reach the parking lot.
