The place

North America's biggest ski resort in winter and a mountain-bike and alpine-hiking mecca in summer, linked by the record-breaking PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola strung between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains.

Whistler is really two mountains and two seasons. In winter it's the largest ski resort in North America, with terrain for first-timers and pros alike; in summer the same slopes turn into a world-class lift-served bike park, alpine hiking network and via-ferrata playground. The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola links the two summits with a jaw-dropping ride over the valley.

The pedestrianised village makes it easy to base yourself car-free, with everything from rental shops to après patios a short walk apart. Come midweek or in the shoulder seasons for thinner crowds and better value, and always check the alpine weather before heading up high.
